Debriefing "Your Vision of Student's Today" Video...

Looking at the project website NETGENED 2012 and making a note-what do you think this project is really about?

Tuesday-Thursday Jan. 24th-Jan. 26th

In preparation for our participation in the NetGenEd Project, each pair of students will research one of the technology trends outlined in the 2012 Horizon Report. Students will learn research techniques, practice advanced Internet search strategies, begin tagging and sharing resources using social bookmarking, and collaboratively compose a page on our class wiki with information about their topic. By the end of the week, students will be ready to teach their classmates about their technology trend and its future impact on education.

Step One - Start with the 2012 Horizon Report

  1. Read the overview of your technology trend described in the 2012 Horizon Report
  2. As you read, if there are words you don't know as you read, stop to look them up.
  3. Begin to notice key words related to your technology trend
  4. Spend some time outside of the report investigating your technology trend as it is on the Internet
  5. Record key terms, relevant URL's, and questions that you still have regarding your assigned technology on your wiki page (follow the links in the right-hand column above)
  6. Remember that organization of your page is important, so use this time to think about the aesthetics of what you post to your topic wikipage-how is the information organized? Is it accessible/understandable to other readers?

Examing the challenges your tech trend has...
Post to the wiki and research relevant websites that address the challenges your tech trend faces

Presenting your tech trend pages...what do you know...what more do you need to know (thinking about your technology in the classroom)
What do we know? What do we need to know (to go into this project)? What questions are we left with (content or project)?

Chapter 1: The Net Generation Comes of Age

Read Aloud - Introduction pp. 9-11
And class discussion

Wednesday, February 1st 2012

Small Groups of 3 - Each group reads one of these sections:
  • Boom, Bust, Echo, pp. 11-16 Joel, Myriam, Roberto, Brenda
  • The Echo Becomes the Net Generation, pp. 16-21 Jad, Dana, Marisa, Taylor
  • The First Global Generation, pp. 21-34 Salim, Christian, Haly, Morgan

Use the Four A's protocol to take notes as you read and discuss the text afterwards

What Assumptions does the author of the text hold? •

What do you Agree with in the text? •

What do you want to Argue with in the text? •

What parts of the text do you want to Aspire to (or Act

upon)?

If Time Permits we will hold each discussion "in a fishbowl" so everyone can hear what your section was about

‍The Net Gen Norms

Please work with your assigned Norm below
  1. Freedom: Roberto, Salim, Joel
  2. Customization Jad, Brenda
  3. Scrutiny Marisa, Myriam, Taylor
  4. Integrity Dana, Morgan, Joel
  5. Collaboration Brenda, Dana
  6. Entertainment Roberto, Christian
  7. Speed Morgan, Haly
  8. Innovation Salim, Jad
Follow these directions for ONE of your norms, then start over and do the same process for the other one.

Text Rendering - Create a Wordle about Your Net Gen Norm

1. Read the introduction to your norm on pp. 34-36 and talk about it briefly in your group
2. Then read the full explanation of your norm on pp. 74-96
3. As you read, look for words and phrases that stand out to you as key ideas
4. In the class google doc, everyone needs to record the words, phrases, and sentence that you think best explain this norm
  • ONE sentence from the text
  • TWO phrases
  • THREE separate words (not a three-word phrase)
***Even if someone else chooses the same word, phrase, or sentence, you should both type them into the doc - those words will just get bigger, which is the point of the wordle!
5. Once you have collected all the words, phrases, and sentences, copy and paste them into a Wordle > click "Create"
Advanced option: use tildes to join words that go together in a pair or phrase; for example, Net~Geners
6. When you are finished designing your Wordle, click "Save to public gallery," fill in the "Title" with the name of your norm, click "Ok"
7. VERY IMPORTANT: Copy and paste the URL for your wordle into the google doc so we can find it later!
